THE SMALL PRINT
Disclaimer
Family OS helps a household see the work it does and share it more deliberately. It is a coordination tool. It is not a professional service, and it does not know your family. Please read the following before relying on anything the app shows you.
Family OS is not professional advice
Nothing in Family OS — including its insights, prompts, comparisons and suggestions — is medical, psychological, therapeutic, legal, financial or other professional advice. It is information about your own household, presented to help you talk to each other.
If the division of work in your home is affecting your health, your relationship or your wellbeing, please talk to a doctor, a therapist, a counsellor or another qualified professional. Family OS is not a substitute for that, and it is not designed to identify or respond to a crisis.
The times you see are estimates, not measurements
Family OS does not time you. When you set up a task you tell us roughly how long it takes, and how often it happens. Everything the app shows about time is calculated from those two numbers — which is why time figures appear with a ~.
That means the figures are only as good as the estimates behind them, they will not match a stopwatch, and they should not be used as a record of work performed — for example in any employment, financial or legal context.
Comparisons with other families are averages, not targets
Where Family OS shows how your household compares with others, it is showing an aggregate of many anonymised households. Households differ enormously — in how many people live there, their ages, their health, their jobs, where they live, and what they choose to care about.
A difference from the average is not a problem, and the average is not a goal. These figures are offered as context, never as a standard to meet.
Please don't rely on Family OS for anything critical
Family OS sends gentle reminders about parts of your day. It is not an alarm, a medical device, or a safety system, and reminders can be delayed or missed — because of your phone's settings, your network, an operating-system update, or a fault on our side.
Do not depend on Family OS for medication, medical appointments, childcare handovers, legal or tax deadlines, or anything else where a missed reminder matters. Use a tool built for that purpose.
What your household can see
Family OS is shared by design. Tasks marked Family are visible to everyone in your household, along with your name, your colour, your schedule and the household's shared settings. Tasks you mark Private are visible only to you.
Everyone in a household should understand this before joining. Family OS is for households that choose to share — it is not a monitoring or supervision tool, and it should not be used to keep track of another adult without their knowledge and agreement.
Children
A profile for a child under 13 is created and looked after by an adult in the household. That adult is responsible for what is entered about the child, and for deciding what is appropriate to share. From the day a child turns 13, their profile becomes theirs to manage and the adults in the household can no longer edit it.
Availability and accuracy
We work hard to keep Family OS running and correct, but we cannot promise it will always be available, uninterrupted, or free of errors. Features may change. Data you enter may be affected by faults, and you should not treat Family OS as your only record of anything that matters to you.
Your household decides
Family OS observes; it does not judge, and it does not decide. How your family divides its work — and what feels fair — is yours to determine. Please treat anything the app shows you as one input into that conversation, not an answer to it.
